Toscana
Discover Toscana – A Land of Timeless Beauty
Stillway 's image
Famous for its cities of art and hilly landscapes, Toscana flaunts natural beauty, fascinating history, and picturesque scenery.

Looking for the forms of beauty in Toscana is a rather easy activity, as they are everywhere—in the vineyards of Chianti, among the medieval alleys of Siena, in the works of art of Florence, in the monastic chants at the Abbey of Monte Oliveto, in the Etruscan remains, along the paths and routes of pilgrims, in the nature reserves, in the colors of the sea, and in the scent of wooden barrels in the cellars of Montalcino.

A beauty that we also find on the tables, in the various products of traditional cuisine, and in a glass of the typical Chianti or Brunello.

A placid beauty stands out in Val d'Orcia, one of the most beautiful valleys in Toscana, famous for its hilly landscapes and its picturesque cypresses, where the silence is broken only by natural sounds, such as the wind and birdsong.

Toscana as the protagonist

Day 1 - San Gimignano

● We start the tour in the early afternoon at the pick-up point in Siena, from where we depart for medieval San Gimignano, famous for its numerous towers, which once numbered 72 during the city's golden age.

● Today, its historic center stands as a remarkable example of medieval architecture, reflecting influences from Florence, Siena, and Pisa between the 12th and 14th centuries.

Day 2 - Montalcino

● Today, we visit Montalcino, a small medieval village renowned for producing one of the world's most famous wines, Brunello, which we will taste at one of the many wineries in the area.

Day 3 - Siena and San Galgano

● The morning is dedicated to a guided tour of Siena, a medieval city that was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 for its remarkable preservation of medieval structures. One highlight of the tour is a visit to the Santa Maria della Scala museum complex, originally built in the 12th century as a hospital. The site is also renowned for its underground spaces, where an intriguing network of rooms, hidden passages, and areas once used for medical, social, and religious purposes can be explored.

● In the afternoon, we visit the Hermitage of Montesiepi and the legendary sword in the stone, embedded by Saint Galgano Guidotti in the 12th century after renouncing his life of comfort and wealth. Nearby, we explore the ruins of the Great Cistercian Abbey of San Galgano, a stunning and evocative site that stands as one of the finest examples of Gothic-Cistercian architecture in Italy.

Day 4 - Populonia

● The day is dedicated to visiting the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia, where the ancient Etruscan and Roman city of Populonia once stood. This site was known in antiquity for its extensive metallurgical activity related to iron production.

● We explore the necropolis, offering panoramic views of the Gulf of Baratti, before continuing to the acropolis of Populonia, which features temples, buildings, mosaics, and roads from the Roman period, as well as the remains of huts from the first Etruscan settlement.

Day 5 - Abbey of Monte Oliveto

● The morning is dedicated to visiting the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, a place of silence and tranquility. A visit to the historic cellar of the abbey is planned, with a tasting of wines and oil of monastic production.

● In the afternoon, we cross the Val d'Orcia, nominated as a "Wilderness Quiet Park" by Quiet Parks International, a non-profit organization committed to preserving quiet for the benefit of all life. Amidst the breathtaking landscapes of this area, we arrive in Pienza, the "ideal city of the Renaissance."

Day 6 - Abbadia San Salvatore

● Today we visit the Mercury Mine Museum Park of Abbadia San Salvatore, journey not only through the history of the mercury mine, but also through the lives of those who dedicated their entire existence to the mine.
