Umbria
Discover Umbria - A Land of Tranquility and Tradition
Stillway 's image
Umbria is characterized by a variety of landscapes, ranging from rolling hills to valleys, and from rivers to centuries-old forests.

Many Umbrian villages, with their cobbled streets and breathtaking views, preserve traditions and authentic atmospheres, allowing visitors to experience a sense of calm and introspection, away from the noise and pressures of everyday life.

It is a region that offers an ideal combination of peaceful natural landscapes, picturesque villages, spiritual paths, as well as good food, conviviality, and hospitality.

A place where the roar of the Marmore Falls gives way to the spirituality of the monasteries, where the Middle Ages continually emerge and blend with Renaissance art, where the vibrant colors of Castelluccio di Norcia contrast with the deep blue of Lake Trasimeno.

Umbria is a place where the soul can truly find refuge from the frenzy of modern life, where simple and genuine food evokes forgotten flavors, and where encounters with people open doors to a world of stories and traditions.

Todi and the surroundings: Middle Ages and Nature at hand

Day 1 – Perugia

● We begin our tour with a guided visit to Perugia, a celebrated city of art with a medieval appearance, surrounded by a stunning landscape of hills, mountains, and plains.

● It is home to a university founded in 1308 and is famous for jazz and chocolate.

Day 2 – Narni & Lake Piediluco

● We head to Narni, an ancient city rich in history, art, and tradition. After a stroll through the historic center, we have the chance to travel back in time by exploring Narni Sotterranea (Underground Narni), a complex of Byzantine chapels, Roman cisterns, Benedictine churches, and prisons used during the Inquisition.

● In the afternoon, we enjoy moments of tranquility at Lake Piediluco, a beautiful body of water resembling an alpine lake—emerald green in summer and snow-colored in winter. You will have free time to take a lakeside walk, go on a boat excursion, or explore the picturesque village.

Day 3 – Bevagna & Spello

● Today, we immerse ourselves in the medieval atmosphere of Bevagna, of one of the villages belonging to the circuit of "The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy." We visit artisan workshops where skilled craftsmen revive ancient trades within evocative settings.

● In the afternoon, we explore Spello, a charming village perched on a spur of Mount Subasio, characterized by ancient sandstone houses, narrow winding medieval alleys, and breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills.

Day 4 – Orvieto & La Scarzuola

● We visit Orvieto, whose origins date back to the Etruscan civilization and whose artistic and cultural heritage is among the richest in Umbria. We discover the Duomo, with its solemn space marked by towering pillars that create an exceptional sense of perspective, and St. Patrick’s Well, a masterpiece of medieval engineering.

● The day continues in a dreamlike and surreal place—La Scarzuola, a Franciscan convent founded by St. Francis of Assisi in 1218 and later purchased by Tommaso Buzzi in 1956. Next to the convent, Buzzi designed his "Ideal City," a collection of buildings, staircases, and monuments characterized by a surreal, labyrinthine, evocative, geometric, astronomical, and magical nature.

Day 5 – Eremo delle Carceri (Assisi)

● Today is dedicated to silence and the contemplation of nature. We visit the Eremo delle Carceri, a sanctuary nestled in the dense forest of Mount Subasio, where St. Francis and his first companions withdrew in meditation. The name derives from the Latin carcer, meaning "a secluded and solitary place."

● Here, in addition to exploring the sites associated with St. Francis, we will be immersed in the silence and unspoiled beauty of this enchanting location.

Day 6 – Spoleto & Norcia

● In the morning, we visit Spoleto, one of the most fascinating art cities in Umbria, with over 2,000 years of history, culture, and international events. We make our way up to Rocca Albornoz, which dominates the town.

● In the afternoon, we travel to Norcia, the birthplace of Saint Benedict, to attend an impressive falconry show.

Day 7 – Fonti del Clitunno & Todi

● Nature takes center stage once again as we spend time at the Fonti del Clitunno, a splendid natural spring within a protected park. Considered sacred by the Romans, praised by Pliny the Younger, and celebrated by writers such as Corot, Byron, and Carducci, the Fonti del Clitunno offer a place to reconnect with nature in an atmosphere of sublime harmony.

● In the afternoon, we travel to Todi, where you will have free time to explore the town before meeting up for dinner.
